2025 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships: Registration Now Open

The year is ending with a bang in the chess world. One of the biggest and most thrilling events is back — the 2025 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships.

From December 25 to 31, top players from around the globe will gather in Doha, Qatar. The event features fast time controls, elite competition, and a massive €1 million prize fund. Registration is officially open, and FIDE welcomes all eligible players to join.

Tournament Format

Rapid Chess

• Open Section: 13 rounds (Swiss system)

• Women’s Section: 11 rounds (Swiss system)

Blitz Chess

Two stages:

1. Swiss Stage:

   • 19 rounds (Open)

   • 15 rounds (Women)

   • Played over two days

2. Knockout Stage:

   • Top 4 players from each category

   • Matches have 4 games

   • If tied, a sudden-death game decides the winner

Prize Fund Breakdown

• Open Rapid: €350,000

• Open Blitz: €350,000

• Women’s Rapid: €150,000

• Women’s Blitz: €150,000

Who Can Play?

You are eligible if:

• You have a FIDE rating of 2550+ (Open) or 2250+ (Women) in Standard, Rapid, or Blitz

• You are a reigning national champion

• You receive a nomination from the FIDE President or the organiser

Registration Details

• Entry Fee:

  • $100 (Open section)

  • $50 (Women’s section)

• Late Fee:

  • Double the original amount if paid less than 10 days before the event

• Registration Deadline: November 1, 2025

All players and accompanying persons must stay in the official hotels, which can be selected while filling out the registration form.

Travel & Accommodation Support

The following players will receive support:

• Open players rated 2750+

• Women players rated 2500+

• 2024 medalists (Gold, Silver, Bronze) — full accommodation covered

Accompanying Person Fee

A fee of $100 must be paid by November 1, 2025. This includes:

• Airport-hotel-airport transport

• Hotel to playing hall transport

• Accreditation

• Visa support

• General admission ticket
