Marium Fatima Creates History as Bihar’s First Woman FIDE Master

Marium Fatima has made history by becoming the first Woman FIDE Master from Bihar. She achieved a FIDE rating of 2083 after her strong performance in Spain during the Catalan Circuit Tour organized by My Chess Trip.

She was selected for this tour through the HelpChess Foundation and played in four tournaments. Her biggest achievement was winning the 47th Open Internacional Escacs Barbera del Valles 2025 (Group B), where she scored 7.5/8. This win also gave her a massive rating gain of 152 Elo points.

Marium’s journey was impressive throughout the tour. She won one event, tied for first in another, and performed well in the remaining two. This was her first international tour in Europe, making the achievement even more special.

She shared,

Overall, it was a really good experience. I played four tournaments, won one, tied for first in another, and the other two also went well, even though there were a few tough moments. I’m still learning, so I’ll keep improving.

Her Tournament Results

Kaivalya Nagare secured third place at the 25th Obert Internacional Sant Martí 2025 Group A tournament with a score of 7/9. He also earned an IM norm in the same tournament.
Harshit Sahu defeated two IMs at the 25th Obert Internacional Sant Martí 2025 Group A tournament!
Advaith Asokumar delivered a brilliant performance and finished fourth at the 25th Obert Internacional Sant Martí 2025 Group A tournament with a score of 7.5/9.
Parth Moghe secured third place at the 49th Open Internacional d’Escacs Vila de Sitges (Group B) tournament with a score of 6.5/9.

Highlights from the Tour

  • The Barbera Open was the turning point of her trip. It boosted her confidence for the entire tour.

  • At Sitges, she narrowly missed the title after a loss in round seven.

  • In Badalona, she started strong but slipped in the final rounds.

Despite ups and downs, she remained focused. Reviewing her past games helped her regain confidence and continue improving. She now stands as a strong contender to become Bihar’s first Woman Grandmaster.

Her success has inspired many young players and brought pride to Bihar’s chess community.
