FIDE has officially opened media accreditation for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 and the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2026.

Both events will take place from March 18 to April 16, 2026 in Paphos, Cyprus. This beautiful coastal city will host some of the world’s strongest chess players. These tournaments are the final and most important stage of the FIDE World Championship cycle. Eight top players will compete in each tournament. They will play a double round-robin format over fourteen rounds of classical chess.

This means every player will face all others twice, once with white and once with black. The winner will earn the right to challenge for the World Chess Championship title. This makes the event extremely exciting and highly competitive.

Media professionals who want to cover the event can apply through the official media registration form on the Candidates 2026 website. Journalists, photographers, and online media representatives are all welcome to apply.

Accredited media members will collect their badges on-site in Cyprus. They must bring a valid photo ID or travel document. The organizers promise a comfortable working space for all accredited media. Special facilities will be provided, similar to other major FIDE events.

FIDE looks forward to global media coverage of these historic chess tournaments. Chess fans around the world will be eagerly watching every move. ♟️
