FIDE Amateur World Championships 2026: Host cities under review

FIDE has received several bids to host the 2026 Amateur World Championships. The deadline for submissions ended on January 26, 2026. By then, four countries applied to host the main championship. One country also applied to host the new Rapid & Blitz event.

FIDE is now carefully reviewing all the proposals. The final host city will be announced soon. Chess players around the world are eagerly waiting for the decision.

Here are the bids for the World Amateur Championships 2026 (new format):

  • Fujairah, UAE: October 15–22, 2026

  • Sitges, Spain: October 29 – November 5, 2026

  • Shenzhen, China: October 15–25, 2026

  • Abuja, Nigeria: September 1–8, 2026

Here is the bid for the World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Championships (new event):

  • Abuja, Nigeria: May 31–June 8, 2026
