FIDE World Junior Rapid & Blitz 2025 Begins in Lima, Peru
The FIDE World Junior Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2025 have officially started in Lima, Peru. From September 22 to 28, top chess players under the age of 20 are competing at the Sheraton Lima Centro Histórico Hotel. These events highlight both speed chess and strategic play, making them some of the most exciting junior tournaments of the year.
The championship is organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), together with the Peruvian Chess Federation and the Continental Chess Confederation of the Americas (FIDE America).
This event not only promotes young chess talent but also strengthens Lima’s reputation as a host city for international sports competitions.
The opening ceremony featured José Carrillo Pujol, President of FIDE America, and Víctor Mendoza, the event director and organizer, who made the ceremonial first moves.
Global Participation
Players from 20 countries are taking part, including:
Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Cuba, Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Romania, India, Uruguay, Mexico, Aruba, and Peru.
The event brings together diverse cultures, rising talent, and a shared love for chess on a global stage.
