The intense battles of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 paused for a day as players enjoyed a well-earned rest. The first rest day brought a calm and refreshing atmosphere, giving top players time to relax and recharge.

Instead of focusing on the chessboard, players explored different activities to refresh their minds.

One of the most unique experiences came from Andrey Esipenko. He spent time with his family learning how to make traditional Cypriot halloumi cheese. Joining him was Anna Muzychuk, who also took part in this cultural activity.

Local experts guided them through the full process. They learned how to curdle, shape, and cook the cheese. It was a hands-on experience that introduced them to a key part of Cypriot culture.

Meanwhile, other players chose different ways to relax. Some enjoyed friendly paddle games on the court. Others stayed focused on fitness with gym sessions. A few preferred quiet walks along the beautiful Mediterranean coastline.

With players refreshed and energized, the tournament now moves forward.
