The Muscat Nights International Chess Championship 2026 ended successfully in Muscat, Oman. The event took place from January 14 to January 24, 2026. It has now become one of the most important FIDE-rated chess tournaments in the Middle East.

The tournament was organized by the Oman Chess Committee. It was hosted at the Al Amal Club Hall in Muscat. The championship attracted players from many countries around the world. This made the competition strong and exciting.

The event had two main categories. These were Open A (Over 2000 rating) and Open B (Under 2000 rating). Both sections followed a 9-round Swiss format with classical time control. A fast-paced blitz tournament was also held alongside the main event.

The 2026 edition was bigger than previous years. A total of 270 players from 36 countries participated. More than 10 Grandmasters (GMs) and over 10 International Masters (IMs) competed. Their presence helped young and regional players gain valuable experience.

The tournament was widely praised for its smooth organization. Players and officials appreciated the competitive spirit and professional management. The event also helped promote chess in Oman and across the region.

Indian players performed exceptionally well in the championship. They won top positions in two major categories. This once again showed the strength of India’s growing chess culture and training system.

Beyond chess, the organizers arranged a cultural sightseeing tour for all participants. Players visited famous landmarks like Mutrah Souq, Al Alam Palace Square, the National Museum, and the Royal Opera House Muscat. This helped them explore Oman’s rich history and culture.

The Oman Chess Committee also organized friendly football matches for the players. These games were played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The activity helped players relax, bond, and build friendships beyond the chessboard.

Overall, the Muscat Nights International Chess Championship 2026 was a great success. It combined high-level chess, cultural exchange, and sportsmanship in a wonderful way. ♟️
