FIDE World Cup 2025 Comes to Goa, India

The chess world is heading to India! From October 30 to November 27, 2025, Goa will host the FIDE World Cup 2025.

This thrilling knockout event will feature 206 top players battling for a prize fund of USD 2,000,000 and three spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournament. With its win-or-go-home format, every round promises high drama and excitement.

Why Goa?

Goa is famous for its beaches, culture, and warm hospitality. Now, it will also become the stage for one of the most prestigious chess tournaments in the world.

India has a deep connection with chess. In recent years, the country has risen as a true chess powerhouse:

  • Gukesh Dommaraju became World Champion in 2024.

  • India won the Chess Olympiad in both Open and Women’s sections.

  • Divya Deshmukh lifted the 2025 Women’s World Cup, earning worldwide recognition.

Bringing the Open World Cup to Goa continues this momentum and gives Indian fans the chance to see their heroes face the world’s best on home soil.

  • Qualification: Top 3 finishers advance to the 2026 Candidates Tournament
