Javokhir Sindarov Enters Top 5 in FIDE May 2026 Ratings

The May 2026 rating list by FIDE has brought exciting changes. These updates were mainly influenced by the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 and the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2026. Several strong tournaments across Europe also played a big role, including the European Individual Chess Championship.

Sindarov’s Big Breakthrough

Javokhir Sindarov delivered a fantastic performance at the Candidates. He gained 31 rating points. This pushed him into the Top 5 players in the world.

Anish Giri also impressed. He finished as runner-up and gained 14 rating points. He climbed three places to reach World No. 6.

Changes in Women’s Rankings

Bibisara Assaubayeva had a strong event. She gained 11 rating points. This helped her reach a career-best World No. 7.

Aleksandra Goryachkina returned to the Top 5 in the women’s list.

Standout Performances

Liya Kurmangaliyeva had the biggest gain of the month. She performed brilliantly at the Reykjavik Open 2026 and the Grenke Chess Open 2026.

Jennifer Yu made a strong comeback. She returned to the Top 100 Women after almost seven years.

Xiao Yiyi impressed in the Chinese Women’s Chess Team Championship 2026. She gained 28 rating points.

Savitha Shri B performed very well in the Fagernes Chess International 2026 and Bratislava Norm events.

Vaishali Nears 2500

R Vaishali had a great tournament. She gained 26 rating points. She is now very close to the 2500 rating mark. She also earned the chance to play for the Women’s World Championship title.

Young Star Erdogmus Makes History

Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus showed incredible strength. He defeated Veselin Topalov in a match with a 5–1 score.

He gained 21 rating points. He also crossed 2700 Elo. At just 14 years, 10 months, and 13 days, he became the youngest player ever to do so. He broke the previous record of Wei Yi.

More Notable Performances

Teodora Injac was the top female player at the European Individual Championship. She returned to the Top 30 Women.

Sophie Milliet performed well at CISF 2026.

Anna Shukhman impressed at the Menorca Open.

Final Thoughts

The May 2026 FIDE rating list shows a clear shift in world chess. Young players are rising fast. New names are entering the top ranks. And the competition is becoming stronger than ever.
