Teacher Training in Eritrea Builds Strong Future for Chess
The Eritrean National Chess Federation (ENCF) has launched an important teacher training programme to strengthen chess in schools. The training took place from February 2 to February 6, 2026, and focused on preparing teachers to coach young chess players.
During the five-day course, educators learned practical coaching skills and student-friendly teaching methods. Trainers showed how to introduce chess in a fun, simple, and effective way inside classrooms. The sessions combined theory with interactive activities, making learning enjoyable and engaging.
Teachers who attended the programme shared positive feedback. They said the training helped them think creatively and improved their ability to guide students. They also highlighted how chess can help children develop discipline, focus, and critical thinking skills.
ENCF officials explained that this initiative is part of a long-term plan to grow chess at the grassroots level. By training school teachers, the federation aims to create a strong base for future chess talent in Eritrea.
An ENCF official said, “With well-trained and dedicated coaches, we expect strong chess players to emerge within the next two to three years.”
This programme marks a major step in developing school chess in Eritrea. It lays a strong foundation for future national players and supports structured chess education across the country.
