Sathwik D S S U and Aditya Varun Gampa Shine at Vizag Rapid & Blitz Rating Open 2025
The Vizag Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2025 saw exciting battles and brilliant chess performances. Sathwik D S S U, Sravyasree Bheemarasetty, and Nyna Gorli scored 8/9 in the Rapid Rating Open. Sathwik won the Rapid tournament on tie-breaks. Sravyasree finished second, and Nyna claimed third.
Sathwik defeated the eventual runner-up Sravyasree in Round 6. He lost to Nyna in Round 7. The Rapid tournament had a total prize fund of ₹1,50,000. The top prizes were ₹10,500, ₹8,000, and ₹7,000, along with trophies.
In the Blitz Rating Open, FM Aditya Varun Gampa, Arav Baid, Sathwik, and Ram Charan Teja Majji scored 8/9 each. Aditya became the champion. The other three were placed second to fourth based on tie-breaks. Blitz had a prize fund of ₹50,000. The top prizes were ₹5,000, ₹3,000, and ₹2,000 with trophies.
This victory marked Sathwik’s fourth overall and his first rating tournament win of the year. For Aditya, it was his first tournament triumph in 2025.
Nyna Gorli started brilliantly in the Rapid Open, winning eight games in a row. She led initially, but Sathwik defeated Vamsi Krishna R to secure the title. Sravyasree beat Nyna to finish second, and Nyna took third.

In Blitz, Aditya Varun Gampa led with 7.5/8 before the final round. Six players, including Arav Baid and Sathwik, were just half a point behind. Aditya drew in the final round against Sri Akhil Prasad to clinch the title. Arav finished second, and Sathwik won third place.

Sathwik gained 51.2 Elo points with his Rapid victory. Aditya remained unbeaten in Blitz, winning on tie-breaks.
The tournament saw the presence of dignitaries, adding prestige to the event. Guests included Commissioner of Police Shankar Bharathi Bagchi, WFM Kolagatla Alana Meenakshi, DSNL University Vice Chancellor Dasari Surya Prakasa Rao, and other prominent personalities. The tournament was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor and the Commissioner of Police.
Prizes were distributed by M V Ramana, Founder and Chairman of CMR Group, A Suresh, President of Andhra Chess Association, and K V V Sarma, Chief Advisor of Andhra Chess Association.
The Rapid Rating Open had 329 participants from across India. It was held on 30th and 31st August 2025 at Waltair Club, Visakhapatnam. The time control was 15 minutes plus a 5-second increment per move.
The Blitz Rating Open featured 278 players, including one participant from England. It took place on 31st August 2025 at Waltair Club. Blitz games had a time control of 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment per move.
Both events showcased the talent and competitive spirit of India’s top chess players.
