European Chess Championship 2025

The European Chess Championship 2025 is taking place in Eforie Nord, Romania. The tournament has now reached its halfway point. After six intense rounds, players are enjoying a well-earned rest day.

The sixth round began with a special opening ceremony. Consul General of Turkey in Romania, Ozan Cakir, along with Romanian Chess Federation officials Alin-Mile Berescu and Gabriel Grecescu, were present.

Daniil Yuffa in the Lead

The European Chess Championship 2025, Grandmaster (GM) Daniil Yuffa from Spain (rating 2654) is leading the tournament. He has scored 5.5 out of 6 points so far. In Round 6, he played against GM Robert Hovhannisyan from Armenia (rating 2630).

Yuffa, playing with the white pieces, got a strong position in the Reversed Benoni opening. However, he couldn’t convert it into a win and had to settle for a draw.

The Chase for the Title

The battle for the championship is far from over. Eleven grandmasters are just half a point behind Yuffa, with 5 out of 6 points each. They include:
