The Chess Women’s Day was celebrated in style at the 2026 edition of the Prague Chess Festival 2026. The special programme took place on March 2, during the rest day of the tournament.

It was a day full of learning, inspiration, and fun.

Pia Cramling Inspires the Next Generation

Legendary Grandmaster Pia Cramling was the star of the event. She began the day with an autograph session, meeting fans and young players.

After that, she played a simultaneous exhibition against players from the Futures section. This was extra special because she is the official ambassador of the Futures tournament, which is dedicated to female players this year.

Young talents had the rare opportunity to test their skills against one of the greatest women players in chess history.

Divya Deshmukh Teaches Chess Basics

Indian star Divya Deshmukh also played an important role during the event. She became a chess instructor for the day.

Divya explained the basics of chess to famous Czech actress Aňa Geislerová. The session was interactive and enjoyable, showing how chess can connect people from different backgrounds.

Special Documentary Screening

The celebration ended with a screening of the award-winning documentary Sofonisba’s Chess Game. The film was shown at the beautiful Grand Hotel Prague Towers, adding a cultural touch to the chess festival.

A Day Full of Fun and Learning

This was a landmark event. It brought together legends, national team players, young talents, and chess fans.

The Czech women’s national team also joined the celebration by playing open games with the public. Every girl interested in chess was welcome to participate, no matter her rating or experience level.

The event had free public entry. Its main goal was clear — to inspire and motivate young female players to grow in chess and aim higher in their careers.

Chess Women’s Day at the Prague Chess Festival 2026 proved that women’s chess is growing stronger and brighter every year.
