Magnus Carlsen Wins TePe Sigeman 2026 After Dramatic Tiebreaker

Magnus Carlsen won the TePe Sigeman & Co. Chess Tournament 2026 after beating Arjun Erigaisi in a thrilling blitz tiebreaker.
The tournament was held in Malmö and featured a strong eight-player round-robin field. Some of the biggest names in world chess participated, including Carlsen, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Arjun Erigaisi, and Jorden van Foreest.
Arjun started the tournament with two draws. He then took the lead with important wins against Nils Grandelius in Round 3 and Jorden van Foreest in Round 5.
Carlsen also began the event strongly. However, he suffered a setback in Round 4 after losing a sharp and exciting game against Van Foreest. With only a few rounds remaining, Magnus needed strong results to stay in the title race.

In the final round, Arjun was leading Carlsen by half a point. Arjun faced Andy Woodward, while Magnus played against Turkish prodigy Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus.
Arjun’s aggressive opening choice quickly became dangerous for him. He had to defend carefully to escape with a draw. At the same time, Carlsen slowly outplayed Erdogmus and won the game to catch Arjun at the top of the standings.
Both players finished the tournament with 5 points out of 7. The champion was then decided through a blitz tiebreaker.
The first two blitz games were full of drama, with both players winning once with the black pieces. This forced an Armageddon game to decide the winner. Carlsen had the black pieces but received 30 extra seconds on the clock.

The final game turned into a crazy time scramble. Under pressure, Arjun blundered his queen, allowing Magnus Carlsen to seal the victory and lift the TePe Sigeman 2026 title.
Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus and Nodirbek Abdusattorov shared third place with 4 points each. Jorden van Foreest finished with 3.5 points, while Andy Woodward scored 3 points. Zhu Jiner scored 2 points, and Nils Grandelius finished with 1.5 points.
The tournament gave chess fans exciting games, intense battles, and another memorable finish involving Magnus Carlsen.
