Vincent Keymer Wins Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters 2025

German chess star GM Vincent Keymer has done it again! He won the Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters 2025 with an outstanding score of 7/9.

Keymer secured the title with one round to spare and also bagged the first prize of nearly $30,000. On top of that, he gained 21 rating points and is now set to enter the FIDE Top 10 in September 2025.

A Dominant Run in Chennai

The tournament took place in Chennai, India, from August 6–15, 2025. It was a 10-player round-robin event with classical time control.

Keymer started with three straight wins, taking the early lead. He never gave it up. Even after already winning the title, he played the last round with full energy, defeating GM Ray Robson with the black pieces. He finished with an incredible +5 score.

The Fight for Second Place

The battle for silver and bronze was just as thrilling. GM Anish Giri defeated GM Jorden van Foreest in the final round to catch up with GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM Murali Karthikeyan, who had drawn their game.

All three finished with 5/9, but thanks to tiebreaks:

  • 🥈 Anish Giri took second place.

  • 🥉 Arjun Erigaisi claimed third place.

  • Murali Karthikeyan finished fourth, but still impressed.

Interestingly, only Keymer and Giri managed to stay undefeated throughout the event.
